Argolida (Corinth - Mycenae - Nafplio - Epidaurus)
This is a beautiful one day excursion of about ten hour duration. Starting from Athens we drive westwards, along the coastal road of Saronic Gulf with the shimmering waters and the nice view to the mounts of Peloponnese.
Then we will reach the Corinth Canal (short stop) with its breathtakig view, we then drive to the ancient city of Corinth. Exploring the archaeological area you will meet the Temple of Apollo , the Theatre, the Roman Odeon, the Glauke fountain into a natural rock and the Archaeological Museum. Besides them there is the famous "Vema" (tribunal) from which St. Paul preached to the Corinthians. After ancient Corinth we'll visit Acrocorinth the citadel of ancient Corinth .
Then we'll continue our trip to Ancient Mycenae the Kingdom of King Agamemnon (Agamemnon commanded the united Greek armed forces in the ensuing Trojan War ).Amongst others, you will admire the Lions' Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, the Treasure of Atreus (Agamemnon Grave), the Subterranean Cistern and the Archaeological Museum.
Then through Argos valley on to Nauplio the charming historic town which was the first capital of the Greek state in 1833. After lunch break we depart for Epidaurus. The world heritage listed city is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asclepiou, god of Medicine and healing center of classical world amongst 300 in the Mediterranean Sea. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek bildings with amazing acoustics, still used today.
